Delight in Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant, a musical setting by Maestro Lucas Richman of 17 different characters created by Children's Poet Laureate Jack Prelutsky.  This program explores the use of music to enhance poetry and features favorites of Vivaldi and Mendelssohn, and Picardy Penguin® leads the audience in singing the oldest musical round.  Picardy's Playground opens for this show at 12:45 PM and is FREE for ticketholders!  This concert is geared toward children ages 3-8, but is perfect for the entire family!

KATY WOLFE ZAHN BIOGRAPHY

KATY WOLFE ZAHN has appeared extensively in this region as well as overseas as an active and versatile performer fluent in both opera and musical theater. Favorite roles include Sally in Cabaret, Desireein A Little Night Music, Mercedes in Carmen with the Knoxville Opera Company, and Jenny in Threepenny Opera with the Oak Ridge Symphony and Mrs. Walker in Tommy at Clarence Brown Theatre. Ms. Zahn has appeared with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra’s Chamber Classics and Pops Series as well as singing for the Fourth of July Celebration in World’s Fair Park and most recently as the soloist for the 75th Anniversary of Smoky Mountain National Park in Cade’s Cove this summer. She frequently performs as a soloist with the Oak Ridge Symphony including a performance of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, which she premiered at the Cathedral Music Festival in Southwark, Coventry and Salisburry Cathedrals in England. Later this season, she will be seen as Aldonza in Man of La Mancha with Clarence Brown Theatre.
Ms. Zahn holds a Bachelor’s degree from Belmont University and a Master’s degree from University of Tennessee where she was a graduate assistant and Knoxville Opera apprentice. A student of George Bitzas’, Katy is a private voice teacher, conductor and director of Sound Company, The Children’s Performing Choir of Oak Ridge, and resides in Oak Ridge with her supportive family. Katy loves singing with the Knoxville Symphony, Maestro Richman and, of course, Picardy-the world’s coolest singing penguin!
