A native of New Mexico, Ms. Bacon joined the Knoxville Symphony in 2011. She began her violin studies at a very young age and pursued both violin pedagogy and vocal performance in undergrad, before deciding to focus on violin performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she received a Master’s degree. Before moving to Knoxville, Ms. Bacon played with the Richmond, Columbus, Canton, New Mexico, and Santa Fe Symphonies, as well as the Pittsburgh Opera. She toured internationally with the Star Wars in Concert Orchestra in 2010.
Since moving to Knoxville, Ms. Bacon has started a private violin studio and has taught sectionals in several Knoxville and Maryville schools. In addition to performing with the symphony, she has been a guest performer on faculty recitals at UT, a soloist with the Maryville College Orchestra, and has collaborated with jazz and pop artists in the area, including the Katy Free Three and Crab Apple Lane. She has also performed with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. She spends her summers playing with the Ash Lawn Opera in Virginia and serving as guest clinician at summer music camps in New Mexico and Texas.
Outside of music, Ruth enjoys exploring the area, with all of its hiking and natural beauty. She practices yoga, frequents the farmer’s market, tries new recipes, and seeks out the best places for a great cappuccino. She lives in historic Fourth and Gill with her husband, Ace Edewards and their two kittens.
