About the Program
The Masterworks season concludes with pianist Ying Li performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 alongside works by Grażyna Bacewicz and Dmitri Shostakovich. Music Director Aram Demirjian leads a program spanning more than 150 years of orchestral music, from Bacewicz’s vibrant Overture to one of the 20th century’s landmark symphonies.
Shostakovich composed his Symphony No. 5 shortly after the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953. Demirjian describes the work as one of the composer’s most powerful orchestral statements, concluding the Masterworks season with a symphony of remarkable scale, intensity, and emotional depth.
