You Always Have Better Ballet Tickets Than I Do…

I always have a seat under the stage for ballet, so while I get some interesting views of fog, I never get to see whatever is going on in the show. This week changes everything because we have the Appalachian Ballet Company performing while we play romantic music. I always marvel at the dancers and it’s a real pleasure to be able to perform and actually watch the show.

“Swan Lake” is a favorite for audiences because several of the themes are really memorable.  “El Amor Brujo” is a really nice piece by the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla and features a singer. I’ve always enjoyed this piece and the unusual harmonies and rhythms. And we also have a piece not many of us have played by the British composer Frederick Delius. It’s from am operatic reworking of the Romeo and Juliet story, and it’s really pretty.

Here, you can listen to Aram Demirjian give an interview with radio host Todd Steed on WUOT 91.9 FM on the performance.

For me, the showcase has to be the ballet since it’s a rare treat —enjoy! Tickets & info here. Concerts are Thursday, Feb. 14 & Friday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre.
